Birmingham's Good Points ... 14,000 volunteers and a lasting legacy

[August 8th 2022]

What an amazingly spectacular Commonwealth Games! A never to be forgotten Games with passion/enthusiasm abound. There will surely be many a legacy linked back to this games and the city of Birmingham ... and it's our collective responsibility to make sure this is so.

On Friday I attended a Commonwealth Games business breakfast exploring the future and the lasting legacy of the games, and the atmosphere was electric. The opportunities to create a lasting legacy are many, for instance in areas such as diversity and inclusion, culture and creativity, tourism and sport/exercise, organisation and excellence, determination and grit, passion and enthusiasm .... with the latter of these exemplified by the heartfelt welcome from a vibrant city and a community with an amazing heart ... and demonstrated spectacularly by the amazing passion/enthusiasm shown by the collective, i.e. all the volunteers / advocates who brought the games to life, providing its soul and beating heart!

"If you want to change the world, measure a person by the size of their heart, not by their physical ability, academic ability or wallet" ... a quote I love (e.g. see my LinkedIn profile) and perhaps this ideal could also become one of the legacies of this amazing games ... as together we value the good people do on a par with the sporting excellence that is achieved ...

... alongside a new energy and increasingly enlightened renaissance in volunteering, exercise and sport, all of which the Good Turns Foundation would love to see and help bring about (e.g. by uniquely introducing the awarding and rewarding of Volunteer Points®, Exercise Points® and Sports Points®) ... which we'd also love to see become a lasting legacy of the Games ... and passed on from Birmingham to the next nation hosting the Commonwealth Games, Australia ...
