Economics: What's its Purpose?
What's the 'Purpose' of 'Economics'? What's the 'Purpose' of this 'Economy'?
I hear many in economics saying the 'purpose' of an 'economy', and 'economics', is (or more accurately 'should be') to create "wellbeing for all" (people and planet), so why is humanity, under the 'badge of economics', doing the opposite? why is humanity destroying humanity?
Basic economic/philosophical questions, which more and more economists & young people are asking ... and Robert F. Kennedy also questioned this too (e.g. the dysfunctional focus on GDP/GNP/Money).
If "wellbeing for all" is meant to be its 'purpose' (and what humanity 'values') why are both society (eg social justice) and the environment classified as 'externalities' in mainstream economics (and not at its centre)?
By answering the above question Purposeful Economics is created ... and an economics that starts to place human flourishing & planetary wellbeing at its heart ... the foundations are here, e.g. GNH, Doughnut Economics, Regenerative Economics, and these will need to join together and grow (in scope & application) if we are to create a clear/purposeful economics, a thriving Purposeful Britain ... and a sustainable, flourishing, Purposeful World†!
Economics 101: Economics needs to start to be explicit about it's purpose, and become Purposeful.
