Purposeful Education - delivering Education 4.0 (and more)
As we rapidly accelerate into the 21st Century many in the world of education are grappling with one key question, ‘What's the purpose of education’? ... How can we make it relevant for all and better prepare young people for the modern world?
The Good Turns Foundation passionately believes all young people deserve the very best possible start in life, and for this to happen education will need to increasingly move beyond the retention of knowledge (and extensive/high stake testing regimes).
Purposeful Education has been set up to embrace the very best in education from all around the world, and to partner with forward-thinking individuals/organisations joining up leading-edge thinking & practices in education, psychology, sociology, neuroscience, health, wellbeing, skills, employment, technology, economics and world-class 'purpose-driven' management practice (e.g. as outlined in my book).
Purposeful Education† aligns with the Good Turns Foundation’s Jewel of a School† programme and will supercharge the delivery of Education 4.0, and more. It will help create an environment where individuals, families, communities, and the planet flourish, by co-defining a clarity of purpose, creating a world where good values/deeds are nurtured into habit, and by helping to discover, develop & unleash individual skills and talents.
It will support educational development and help boost wellbeing, life-skills, foundational skills, human skills, academic skills, vocational skills, creativity, and health. It will also create highly motivating, engaging, and purposeful 21st century learning environments†. Latest education research and educational best practice from around the world is already demonstrating the strong connection between wellbeing/purpose and educational outcomes & grades, and this is only the beginning.
By co-designing a wider purpose (e.g. well-being/skills), and a more expansive/targeted purpose (e.g. ethical leadership, environmental stewardship, vibrant communities, entrepreneurship, workforce of the future), forward-looking schools and their communities are starting to holistically co-define/update their unique/explicit purpose. Once defined, the new/bigger challenge is then finding the most effective ways of delivering it. This is where Purposeful Education also offers unique help and guidance.
Leaders in forward-looking schools around the world are already thinking differently, and acting differently. They are breaking free from the ‘supposed confines’ of their ‘existing systems’ and are already achieving ‘game-changing’ outcomes. Forward-looking universities are starting to redefine their roles and starting to become ‘purpose-driven’ too, and the nation of Bhutan is placing ‘purposeful, worthwhile, meaningful, education’ as the highest priority of all its priorities, and the ‘development of values’ & ‘development with values’ (‘purposeful development’) as critical to its success as a nation (and more & more countries now see this too).
